What are cani dog sports?

Buying or adopting a dog comes with many responsibilities, including making exercise with him, and creates a bound.  I would like to introduce you the sport I started in 2009 with my dogs, I will make you discover of alternatives to walking and dog parks.  Be ready, put on your boots and belt, put on your harness ... this is a departure for cani-cross adventure!

Cani-cross is a sport that unites the dog and his human in a fun outdoor sport.  Native to Europe, this hobby as a great success for our neighbors of the south and is gaining ground in Quebec.  Each year, they are races held in the Belle Province. There are many clubs to discover in Quebec and Ontario, which brings together fans of the sport.  * Links at the end.

All breeds are welcome big or small, the only constraint is that the dog as to be at least 12 months old, he is friendly and has the ability to physical activity. It’s a fun sport and you can walk multiple dogs at the same time. You should start teaching your dog as a puppy with a harness, so he can get use to it, and start working on the commands early too.

A relationship of trust

Cani-cross is a very simple activity. The human dresses up for outside, splint his dog using a cani-cross harness design for the sport and the breed, the dog is attached on a long line elastic bungee which is linked to a wide belt that is around the human waist.

Some novices may have difficulty bringing their dog to wear their harness. Certain clubs suggest initiating the activity with a duo that is use to the sport. Dog will tend to copy the experienced dog. But you can also put the harness on and go play, or walk with your dog, give treats and have fun, he will learn fast that it is fun.

Obviously, like any outdoor activity, it is important to bring water and food for you and your dog. Some clubs also suggest not feed the dog up to two hours before the event to increase their sense of well-being during the exercise.

The human must always be able and ready to bring his dog between his legs if he was overtaken or if an obstacle is present for the safety of the human, the dog and others.

During the race, the human becomes true athletes who have their own characteristic language. Among members of certain clubs to overtake another team, one must ask the passage by saying "TRACK" and make an arc of a circle on the left big enough so that dogs do not intersect. In a narrow path the competitor must stop, bring his dog between his legs and let the runner.

I myself use left, right, front, stop, easier for me to remember, but here are some other commands used by the clubs:

Suitable for everyone, it is customary to use:

Right - Gee (JIII)

Left - Haw (HAAA)

Departure - Go / let’s go

Slow - Easy

Continue straight - Straight

Stop - Whoa (woooo)

Overflow - Track / trail

Here is my belt

The first harness I both are x-back, and found this one I like it better for the dogs, the line attaches at the middle of the back instead of the tail region. My dogs seem to be more comfortable with this one, instead of having the line touch the tail. The steeper angle to the Belt allows the harness to remain more centred on the dog.

I use coconut oil for many things and I use it to put on the doggies’ paws it avoids the pads doggies to freeze or be in contact with salt. Here you have more links for coconut oil http://amateurdechien.ning.com/forum/topics/lhuile-de-vie-entiere

Let it snow! Applied topically, Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFAs) in coconut oil helps protect your pet's sensitive paws in the snow or salt or de-icers on sidewalks.

Before you take your dog out, apply some coconut oil on his paw pads. MCFAs provide a protective chemical layer on the skin and paws that prevent infection from disease-causing organisms. When you bathe your dog, ordinary soap or shampoo tends to wash off the acid mantle of the skin. Applying coconut oil helps to restore the protective layer of the skin. Coconut oil penetrates quickly, keeping skin soft. It helps to reduce any inflammation and is healing to wounds, blood blisters and rashes. Herbalists have been known to use coconut oil as an ingredient to prepare healing salves and ointments.
